Three tasty and cheap meats for this winter.

Braised Ox Cheek. Photo by mirvettium'
Ox cheek - (6 £ by kilo) I know that in England is not very popular and can raise some eyebrows on the table but in some Mediterranean countries are real delicacy. I know that came from the head of the cow but is a cut with plenty meat and when is well-cooked is very tender, especially in stews

Feather Steak (8 £ by kilo) – Came from the shoulder of the cow and has a lot of marbling which will be perfect for grill

Pork belly (5 £ by kilo) without the bone is a very flexible meat for your kitchen. You can stuff, cube or mince for cook terrines or burgers.

Here some Brighton shops to buy organic meat.

  1. Hi German,

I did re-discover your blog this week. And I'm glad I did.
We had a Ox Heart the other day. £2.50 for the complete thing, fresh from the market, from a Dexter cattle breeder. It was great! Only cooked in the slow cooker, we got two great meals out of it (for two). The texture is similar like liver, but a different taste - more soft.
We also do like our liver - preferred rare breed pig. In the slow cooker with loads of onions and red wine - we always looking forward to this.
I would love to read more about these 'cheap cuts' you do mention here.
    Anita
