Riddle and Finns Fish Restaurant

Riddle and Finns is possibly the best fish restaurant in Brighton. In the small dining room you sit at marble topped tables adorned by silver candlearbras. On the weekend we visited the place was packed but service was friendly and prompt
Being on the coast the fish is clearly fresh and perfectly cooked. There is an extensive wine and champagne list and this reviewer had champagne and guinness served in a silver tankard.

Oyster are prepared in several forms, cold or warm and always delicious, and you always need to take a look of the board were generally you can find the best catch of the day in the locals water where the source and the freshness of the ingredients has been one of the best reason for visit this tinny and atmospheric restaurant.

Another things that I really like in Riddle & Finns it is the bread basket, no just served with with good quality butter but also with fish pâté and tabasco
To eat we had brighton scallops with chorizo to start followed by tempura prawns and smoked haddock fillet with colcannon, poached egg and champagne sauce.
Having eaten here many times I cannot recommend this venue highly enough.

Cote Restaurant Brighton

Cote Brighton
Cote Brighton is part of the ever growing and popular Cote chain winner of the best value restaurant in Britain by Good Food Guide.
Located in the Old Music Library, the room is sensational and well decorated, it is just opposite the Brighton Dome.
The venue is very popular and on my last visit was full at 2pm which is always a good sign. The food on every visit (and I have been here at least half a dozen times) is of good quality and great value for money and the service is prompt and friendly. The menu at £9.95 is excellent value for two courses at lunch time.

Cote Brighton main dinner room
On my last visit I had moules marinières like most of the best Brighton seafood restaurants they were very fresh - thank you to the local fishmarket. The mussels, crispy calamari or the deep fried whitebait are a must as a starter, they don't dissapoint you.

Steak with french frites
Then followed a very well cooked grilled Steak with garlic butter and with the best thin french frites. The steak with fries for me in the real star of the menu. For dessert I had Apple Pie with vanilla ice cream - delicious!
I have also  had before a rich and creamy céme caramel and the chocolate pot with creme fraiche on the top is a simple little gem.

In the wine menu you can find good french wine at very good price, you can also try the Meteor beer from an independent french brewery, this french  Lager is a light beer, very refreshing with a good taste.
There have been a few negative reviews on trip advisor but for me this is a great restaurant for an inexpensive meal, good service and always with good atmosphere.

How to book a trouble free Christmas Party

Brighton Sea front offer a lot of options for have a dinner party
The level of hygiene in a restaurant always is very important as well how they manipulate the food in the kitchen, but maybe  when you are choosing your office Christmas party have a special relevance because this time is not just about your healthy is about you team or office and if some people of the team have been sick due  a poor option in the booking that can be a trouble in the future in the work relationship and also with your boss that can see the workload decline given that half of the office was sick at home for a week after the office dinner party. Check out all ours Brighton Restaurants Reviews

How to check if restaurants have high hygiene standards.

When you have decided which restaurant to go for celebrate, before booking go to have a lunch with another colleague to find out how the restaurant is dealing with the hygiene and check out the following recommendations.

1.    The restaurant. Don’t run risks; book early a restaurant with good reputation or places that are used to work with a full house. If you choose a quiet restaurant probably they find at busy times the stress situation makes them vulnerable to mistakes in the food manipulation. Even if they hire enough staff to manage a full house the personnel may be inexperienced.
2.    Check the floor and seats. Rest of food on the floor, dust, spilled drinks or pieces of paper napkins can be an attraction point for bacteria or insects. In any case if they can’t keep the restaurant area clean, you can easy imagine the kitchen state.
3.    Take a look of the personal hygiene of the waitress of the rest of the personal and the common areas that they use like the bar and bathrooms. Arrive early to your lunch can give you an opportunity to see some of the kitchen staff. How they look can give you a good idea how the things are in the kitchen. If you don´t want to run the risk, book a restaurant with an open kitchen and you can have a real look how clean it is.
4.    If you see a fruit flies around that is sign that the environment is not clean and insects thinks the restaurant is a nice place to live.
5.    Check the temperature. If the restaurant is a bit warm or hot can be a problem, high temperature is good for insect and bacteria and is a real risk for certain kind of food.
6.    The table. Any sign of dirtiness in the cutlery, glasses, napkins or tablecloth mean that the dishwasher or wash machine has a bad maintenance. Also take a look to the menu, too much fingerprints is also a bad sign.
7.    The food. Try to book a place that work with local food, just not for the ecological point of view, if the food is local it is mean that was more easy to keep it fresh and less chance to suffer bad food manipulation
8.  The kind of food. Avoid in the menu selection any dishes that contain home-made mayonnaise, dairy sauces, raw fish,  running eggs or dishes that even are properly cook but  are consumed cold like fish-cakes.

Marrocco´s the Pasta Seafood celebration

Marrocco´s Ice Cream
Situated on Hove Esplanade Marrocco´s is a great Italian ristorante famous for its ice cream, pizza and pasta dishes but mainly for the fresh seafood.  The room has a cosy neapolitan feel and the staff are very warm and welcoming and service even at busy times is very efficient.Having had  the superb ice creams on many a summers day we decided to try lunch and had a great value for money meal.

Marrocco´s Restaurant in Hove
Deep fried calamari for share

As a starter we shared some deep fried calamari which was cooked in delicious crispy batter. This was followed by two seafood pasta dishes, one with half a lobster the other with whole crab. The portions were more than generous and the crustaceans were cooked in a combination of garlic, brandy and white wine in a baby plum tomatoe sauce....delicious! .

Spaghetti with Lobster
Spaghetti with a whole crab!

This is the perfect setting for an inexpensive lunch or dinner. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Brighton for have pasta with fresh seafood. We will be back to try the sea-food pizza!

The Coal Shed Grilled Meat & Fish resturant

The Coal Shed in Brighton
This recently opened The Coal Shed restaurant promises excellent meat cooked to perfection and it does not disappoint - I have visited four times, once for lunch to try the burgers and secondly for a full on meal. On the third occasion we took some friends from Spain to savour the food and drink I defy you to find a better place for steak on the South Coast which is cooked using specialized equipment from Spain . The flavour is awesome and the owner has sourced his meat from a farmer here in Sussex which is properly reared and then hung to mature.

Very tasty oysters (above). Coal Shed main room (right)

The fish is equally good as the chef comes from Riddle and Finns in the Lanes. On the last visit we had oysters as a starter , beautifully chilled and very fresh with a creamy  taste of the sea. Main courses were steak burgers for two guests while the other opted for fillet steak served medium rare.

Grilled Burger at the CoalShed
The burgers priced at £8.50 offer excellent value and are the best in the area and as previously stated the meat is cooked to your liking and served with dripping chips. The steaks were a hefty £25 but in my opinion were superb value The desserts are also made on the premises and I can recommend the doughnuts with a Belgian chocolate dipping sauce. The staff are friendly and efficient but I think at busy times more staff would be necessary. The owner Raz  is very passionate about food...and it shows. The room is welcoming and an upstairs private room for small groups has just opened. This is a fine dining experience with the ambience and price - (its not cheap) - to match but the quality and the extensive wine list is worth every penny.
